One mountain to rule them all
According to plans released August 29, Big Bear Mountain Resort intends to expand and connect neighboring resorts Bear Mountain and Snow Summit. The scope of the master development plan would include new chairlifts and approximately 77 acres of new trails with snowmaking. Two chairlifts, about 4,000 feet each, would connect the resorts and meet at a central low point between the two. A third new chairlift would service a new beginner terrain area at Bear Mountain. Also proposed is the removal and/or replacement of some existing chairlifts.
Winter and summer mountain resort destination
Vastly increasing both winter and summer recreational opportunities, BBMR plans to construct a mountain biking trail system at Bear Mountain, expand the existing bike trails at Snow Summit, build a zip tour, and build a mountain coaster. Upgraded infrastructure, parking, guest facilities, and food services are also on the menu.
Approved by next spring?
The Forest Service is accepting public comments on the proposal until September 27. The project could be approved as early as May of next year.
